WE WON ULTIMATE CAKE OFF!!!!

The team at Sedona Cake Couture was honored to be chosen to compete on TLC Channel's Ultimate Cake Off February 1,2010. The season's premier episode was a "Winter Wedding Cake" for a beautiful Korean couple. The cake had to be at least 5 feet tall - our winning cake came in at close to seven feet tall. Three teams of cake artists from around the country competed in the 9 hour competition. The prize - $10,000.00. We're thrilled! Here are some pictures of our winning cake complete with blown sugar geese, strands of sugar gemstones, hand-made sugar peonies and roses.

We had the honor of creating these wonderful Indian wedding cakes at the Sedona wedding of Reshma Bhatka. Imagine - individual, 2 tiered wedding cakes placed on the center of each table on one of our fabulous crystal cake stands. Voila! A centerpiece! How much fun the guests had cutting their own wedding cakes! These Indian inspired cakes were designed with elements from the bride's traditional Indian wedding attire (close up photos here) The rich, vibrant jeweltone colors are beautiful and stand out. Each wedding cake at this Sedona wedding was a different combination of flavors. Needless to say, they were a hit!

The ultimate in luxury - a fabulous wedding cake with matching individual cakes for each guest! We are seeing a return of gold in weddings - a soft, burnished gold which adds such a touch of elegance and timelessness. Gold, accented with dark chocolate is the new color palette.
All of the adornments are sugar - from the gold leaves to the gemstones. Inside was a scrumptious 3 layer concoction of dark chocolate, vanilla and Italian meringues with a crunchy almond praline filling. Yum!

Sedona Cake Couture had the honor of creating this 5'2" tall wedding cake for the reception of Rebecca Jean Francis and Keith Richard Galbut on Saturday, April 25th. With over 1000 sugar flowers between the seven tiers it was our tallest and most elaborate cake to date. The Catering manager of the Ritz Carlton called it a Rock Star Cake! Carefully transported in pieces from Sedona, the wedding cake was assembeled on site at the groom's parent's home in Paradise Valley. Check this out! This is the beautiful Rebecca Francis! And this was the bridal shower cake Sedona Cake Couture made for her shower last weekend. We were told that Rebecca loved black and white! What do you think?!!!! This is the invitation that helped inspire the design!

Inside this cake: the "package" was our Signature flavor - flourless chocolate with vanilla cheesecake and ganache with raspberries; the "lid" was our Orange and Chocolate Grand Marnier; the purse was dark chocolate cake with a truffle ganache filling. Every bit of this cake was edible!!!

Becky is marrying Keith Galbut on April 25th in Paradise Valley and we have the honor of making their wedding cake. Stay tuned. If you think this is special wait until you see the 5' high cake we will be creating for their wedding - with over 1000 sugar flowers!

Andrea Carusetta-Blaut of Sedona Cake Couture created this 3 tiered kid's birthday cake for her grand-daughter Abby's 2nd birthday! In the background is 5 year old Breanna. My 5 year old grand-daughter Breanna was a big help in the kitchen! We had SO MANY cookies to decorate. The entire ballroom at L'Auberge de Sedona was transformed into a magical mecca of colors, textures, lighting - ambience is too pale a word!

The design of the cake was inspired by the fresh flowers used in the arrangements, the color of the cake came from the bridesmaid's dresses. She's a nurse. He's a Fireman. They met in the ER. They both save people! And they are an amazing couple. Today Tommy and Christa were married at beautiful Oak Creek Terrace in Sedona, Arizona. And here are their cakes!
This is Andrea with her Assistant Cake Artist - the talented Kelsey Fink, after setting up the cakes in the gazebo next to Oak Creek.
This is a cake! Chocolate, in fact. And delicious as well! It's a replica of Tommy's fire truck with the Surprise, Arizona Fire Department. The wheels are made with chocolate clay (www.sedonachocolateclay.com),

There is a marzipan "nurse" atop the wedding cake - dressed in a sugar nurse's uniform and a sugar fireman on the chocolate wedding cake adorned with pink sugar calas. It was the perfect symbolism of this magical couple. We wish you the best, Tommy and Christa.

NACE AWARDS!
Last year Sedona Cake Couture entered the 1st Annual NACE (National Association of Catering Executives) Confectionary Competition and took home the top awards (Best of Show and People's Choice Awards) out of all the Arizona cake artists who entered with this Flower Pot Cake.

Now, the second competition......the heat was on! How do we top this? The categories of this year's competition were contemporary, traditional, vintage and retro. We did Vintage - this Vintage Urn Cake - yes, it's a cake! And we did it again!! First Place, Best of Show and People's Choice Awards. Last weekend I created the most magical wedding cake for Marina de Jong's wedding at Ashley Manor. Marina is a Pastry Chef herself and had definite, over-the-top ideas for her cake when she sought me out. The cake had sugar crystal gemstones, sugar tassels and lots of braid detail. The color palette of black, gold and silver worked incredibly well together. To see this cake set up in that spectacular room at Ashley manor was breathtaking! I had the honor of having a world-class photographer shoot this cake for me - thank you Katrina Wallace of sedonabride.com for coming to my cake studio and creating these beautiful photos in your ninth month of pregnancy!
